Different Methods
Stove top:
1. Remove Hellers sausages from the pack and put into a saucepan
2. Pour cold water in the saucepan, enough to cover the sausages
3. Slowly bring the saucepan just up to the boil
4. As soon as you start to see small bubbles rising, remove the saucepan instantly
5. Drain the sausages into a sieve or colander in the sink
6. Put the Hellers sausages straight back into the saucepan to keep them warm
We advise to serve immediately or use in a recipe straightaway as required.
(Note: if you’re in a rush, you can use a lid but this will make the sausages boil faster and put them at risk of splitting, so keep an eye on them.)
BBQ: Low and slow is the trick
1. Preheat your BBQ and ensure it is cleaned with a wire brush.
2. Once preheated turn the temperature down to med-low
3. Take out the Hellers sausages or brats from the pack and place onto the BBQ.
4. The simplest way to know how long to cook a snag is by pouring yourself a drink. So, crack open a bevvy, relax and every sip turn the sausages or brats.
5. Cook your sausages away from direct flame or heat in order to avoid splitting
6. Turn the sausages with your BBQ tongs regularly. We recommend moving them around the BBQ as there are always hot and cold spots on a barbie. This helps ensure you don’t burn, undercook or split your snags.
Pan Fry: Low and slow is ideal
1. Preheat fry pan on a med-low heat
2. Pour a small amount of oil and place the sausages into the pan. Do not cook too many at once, this will reduce the chances of burning and undercooking them
3. Turn and rotate the sausages and brats around the pan regularly. This will help stop the sausages burning and splitting from too much heat
Air Fry:
1. Place the sausages into airfryer basket
2. Cook at 170 ˚C for 5 minutes then turn them over and cook a further 5 minutes or until sizzling hot
